A New Store and Gallery by Jim Schatz & Peter Souza Jr.

Artists Jim Schatz of J Schatz Studio and Peter Souza Jr announce the debut of Take Me Home, a new gallery and retail space in Detroit’s Little Village neighborhood. Located within the Cadillac Arts Centre located in Little Village Detroit, the space will present their collaborative work in clay and wood alongside sculptural objects and design-driven pieces intended for everyday life.

Blurring the line between gallery and domestic interior, Take Me Home brings together collectible design, functional ceramics, and one-of-a-kind works rooted in material exploration and craft. The space reflects a shared approach to making — one that values presence, tactility, and the emotional connection between object and user.

The public will receive a first look at the space with the inaugural exhibition Radical Presence. The exhibition introduces a new body of collaborative works by Schatz and Souza, featuring hybrid clay and wood totems that explore balance, embodiment, and the quiet power of material dialogue.

“Take Me Home is about creating objects that people feel drawn to live with,” says Schatz. “Pieces that carry presence and invite connection.”

“We’re building a place rooted in collaboration and intimacy,” adds Souza. “A space where materials, objects, and people come together.”

With the inaugural exhibition of Radical Presence, Take Me Home begins an evolving platform for exhibitions, collectible design, and new works by Schatz and Souza in Detroit.

Jim Schatz and Peter Souza

Jim Schatz is an artist, designer, and founder of J Schatz Studio. Working primarily in clay, his practice moves between sculpture, design, and one-of-a-kind works that engage themes of material transformation, queer embodiment, and the emotional charge of objects made by hand. Schatz lives and works in Detroit.

Peter Souza Jr. is an artist and maker working across wood, image, form, and installation. His work explores memory, identity, presence, and the emotional life of objects. Through found imagery, constructed forms, and carefully considered materials, Souza creates pieces that feel intimate, poetic, and grounded in lived experience. Souza lives and works in Detroit.

Together, Schatz and Souza co-founded Take Me Home, a gallery and design space in Detroit’s Little Village, as an extension of their shared practice.

Jim Schatz and Peter Souza Jr., founders of Take Me Home gallery and J Schatz Studio, Detroit

Take Me Home begins with a simple human desire: to be drawn toward someone or something, to find connection, and to create a place of belonging. Rooted in Detroit and shaped by our shared life, this space brings together art, design, and handmade objects that make home feel more personal and more alive. We believe the things we live with matter — that objects can hold memory, beauty, comfort, and love, and that the spaces we create around ourselves become expressions of who we are and how we live.
